THE REDOUTABLE

This historic terrace house has been sensitively restored and altered. Existing sandstone walls have been revealed after being covered over for many years. The new rear addition facing the garden has become a modern garden pavilion and a lung of air for the basement level of the house.

The concept of “taking away” to reveal what lies below was used throughout the house so there is a sense of delight and discovery of old revealed treasures. The glass brick footpath light well is one such example as well as the rafters throughout the house. New materials used are all recycled and from a similar period to the original house.

The simplicity of the new addition sits happily with the context of the existing building and those alongside it.
