The site for the 'Ohana House is extraordinarily unique both for its position directly adjacent a beautiful beach, but also the abundance of Littoral Rainforest, and indigenous flora and fauna.

Jennifer and Russell were looking to build a holiday retreat big enough for their extended family and friends, that would repeat this beautiful but sometimes unforgiving landscape.

We were investigating ideas of connection into the landscape, living both inside and outside. Some inspiration was taken from Richard Neutra’s Kaufman Desert House, at Palm Springs, circa 1947.

The building consists of a series of low pavilions emerging from several intersecting walkways. The pavilions provide separate spaces for children and adults, each having its own unique outdoor area.

As a response to environment and as a modern family retreat the house is a great success.
