TAYLOR ST WAREHOUSE

The existing building was retained but the roof line was altered to allow for an extra platform for bedroom. The northern facade was changed to allow the northern sun to penetrate. The extra-ordinariness of the grand order scrolled roof form contrasts with the plain façade elements of the existing warehouse. The idea was to leave the outside of the building in a natural state, raw and crust-like, while the inside was finished in a more delicate manner using the analogy of a shell.

The material strategy was to reuse the surplus brick and timber from the original warehouse, not merely for economy but because these materials give a sense of origin.
